Becoming a Physician Assistant isn’t nearly as hard as you may think. Just like anything that you are unfamiliar with will seem to be difficult at first. Actually beginning a career as a Physician Assistant is quite straightforward. Here is a starting guide to make this possible.
Qualities that you will need to become a Physician assistant:
As you probably already know your role as an assistant is to assist your doctor so proper education is required. In any medical field you will need the proper education that will show you worthy of an interview. You are required to complete 2 year of college with a concentration of P.A. next you are required to pass a Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination. After you have passed this exam you are now qualified to work as an assistant. However, simply having a paper that says you’re qualified isn’t enough.
You will also need:
Self-Motivation
Empathy for the patent and/or your doctor
Emotional Stability is a Must
Ability to effectively perform your job under heavy pressure
Duties of a Physician assistant:
You duties will vary on a per patient basis, but to put it short you are just what your title initials. You will do 75% of all the work in the doctor’s office as long as there is a licensed doctor in the office. Sometime, but not often your duties may be to make house calls under a doctors supervision. Even though this type of service is normally not the case, it is still apart of your duties as an assistant.
Salary and Benefits:
Clinics are hiring more and more Assistant each year due to the demand and economical choice. This doesn’t insure that you will receive more pay, however. Experience is the most important in determining your salary so, the sooner you begin to work in your field the better. This field pays around $70,000 to $85,000 a year.
Conclusion:
The medical field is vastly growing and have many opportunities. Once you have decided on which sub-field you choose to go into the journey is half way done. Knowing your destination and how to get there is most of the work. Now it is up to you to simply take the steps required to reach the finish line.
